Fat loss, not weight loss!

Personal Trainer, Paul Rose, is encouraging you to chuck out the scales and embrace the tape measure in a bid to lose fat.

"It's all too easy to become obsessed with your weight, but people should focus more on losing their belly, not moving the needle on the scales," says Paul.

According to Paul, fat doesn't weigh much, so it's best not to get fixated on the scales - taking photos of your progress and using a tape measure are the best indicators of your progress.

Getting the grub right

You can spend hours in the gym, but if your diet isn't up to scratch, you'll be fighting a losing battle. Here are a few tips and a tasty recipe to set you on the right path:

  • Avoid trans and hydrogenated fats
  • Limit sugar consumption as much as possible
  • Avoid ready meals and takeaways
  • Leafy green veg can be eaten to your heart's content!
  • Include lean meats like chicken, as well as fish like salmon in your diet - the protein will help your body to recover after exercise
  • Experiment with different herbs and spices to add flavour to meals

Try this easy Salmon Burger recipe:

700g salmon fillet

¼ cup of chopped fresh basil

1 garlic clove crushed

1 Egg

1tsp onion powder

Place the salmon, basil and garlic in a blender and mix until smooth. Put the mixture into a bowl and fold in the egg and onion powder, then mould into patties. Grill on a medium heat for roughly 15 minutes, turning once. Serve and enjoy with as much fresh veg or salad as you like!
